Why is storage still full after deleting files?
Deleting files does not always free space. Recycle Bin contents, shadow copies, cloud caches, and reserved system areas can hide the space you expected to reclaim.
問題 · THE PROBLEM
Deleting files does not free space
You deleted gigabytes of files, but your drive shows the same amount of used space. Cloud sync caches, shadow copies, Recycle Bin contents, and reserved system storage can all prevent reclaimed space from appearing.

よくある質問 · FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Deleted files often remain in the Recycle Bin, system caches, or shadow copies. Windows may also reserve space for system recovery that does not free up until explicitly cleared.
Yes, once you empty the Recycle Bin, the space is marked as available. However, until the operating system reclaims it, it may still show as used.
Shadow copies are point-in-time backups of files and volumes maintained by Windows. They can consume significant space, especially after large file changes or system updates.
Yes. Cloud storage apps like OneDrive keep local copies of files and caches that consume disk space even if the files are online-only.
Windows reserves space for system recovery, page files, and hibernation. These reserved areas are not visible as files but still reduce available space.
Sometimes. If deleted files are still held open by a process, a restart allows Windows to fully reclaim the space.
