Is hibernation consuming storage?

Hibernation saves your session to disk using a file called hiberfil.sys. On systems with 16GB+ RAM, this can be 16GB or larger.

Is hibernation consuming storage? explained

On Windows, is hibernation consuming storage? happens because of how the system manages files, caches, updates, and application data. Many components silently grow without automatic cleanup, leading to unexpected storage consumption.

  • Application data in AppData
  • Cloud sync folders
  • Windows Update cache and remnants
  • Browser caches and downloads
  • Hidden system folders
  • Game launcher caches
